What is the point of an overhang bracket? Better yet, what are they? Let’s start at the overhang itself. If you would like a seating area for a peninsula or island, typically the minimum is 9 inches of the overhanging so that there is space for your legs underneath. The more overhang, the more support your natural stone will need. Because the stone is so heavy, you don’t want it to crack. That’s where the overhang brackets come into play. That is the support so you can be assured and have peace of mind that your stone is not going to snap. The options to fix this can be invisible; so it shouldn’t be a worry, and a hesitation won’t be made that it would affect the appearance. The photos shown below here were from a service call appointment where we went out to install said brackets. This customer had countertops installed elsewhere, and they did not install the supports for his overhang. But not to worry, we went out and did that for him! Now he can be sure he will have a sturdy countertop AND overhang.
